Exit & Emergency Lighting Inspection
Exit and emergency lights are designed to illuminate corridors, stairwells, ramps, escalators, aisles, and exit passageways during power outages. If your emergency lights fail during an emergency, building occupants can become disoriented, which can lead to panic and other unsafe conditions.
Unfortunately, routine maintenance of emergency lighting is often overlooked until an emergency—and by then, it’s already too late! Emergency lighting maintenance is required by NFPA Standard No. 101, Chapter 31, Section 1.3.7, which states:
“A functional test shall be conducted on every required emergency lighting system at 30-day intervals for a minimum of 30 seconds. An annual test shall be conducted for the 1 1/2 hour duration. Equipment shall be fully operational for the duration of the test. Written records of visual inspections and tests shall be kept by the owner for inspection by the authority having jurisdiction.”
Our Exit & Emergency Lighting Inspection Process
At Confires, our mission is to make sure your building is fully prepared for any emergency situation. Our emergency lighting inspection process includes:
- Inspecting units for proper installation and for secure mounting
- Inspecting for correct location and quantity of lights for occupancy
- Performing load test of batteries with electronic load simulators
- Verifying proper charging voltage of units
- Inspecting bulbs for proper operation and illumination
- Testing in place utilizing the built-in test switch that simulates a power outage
Some jurisdictions require a 90 minute discharge test per NFPA that can be provided at an additional cost. Whatever your local requirements may be, the professionals at Confires can help get your system up-to-date to ensure that it is fully functional.
